So few things bring me more happiness that starting the day with a juicy snack followed by a sunny hike in the woods. Today was no exception.
Bathed in a grossly overdue & jaw-droopingly beautiful light, Max chose a couple ripe nectarines, which he shared with a few friends. The house was toasty with chatter and movement, wrapping around you like a hug. The boys told ridiculous jokes that no one could understand and they roared with laughter. Juice dripping out of the corners of their guffawing, open mouths. And then they’re off. So best.
After nourishment & belly laughs, we left for the Arboretum.
Under a baby blue sky & through the grassy lawn we pass all the autumnal hues every poet has ever written about–impressionist brush strokes as far as your eye could travel.
And we move further in.
A floor of pine needles cushions our steps.
And we move further in.
A 24 karat canopy above our heads.
And we move further in.
And we arrive in the way salty air greets you at the ocean, but with insulated stillness here.
Path obscured, we glide into a golden sea. Shimmering, rolling waves in which to lie and splash. So deep, you swim & dive in the soft vastness until you glowingly come up for brisk air.
And for love from Mama.
Joy in an autumn ocean.
