Birthdays Are The Best

Birthdays aren’t ordinary at all. Birthdays are extraordinary.  You know how much I love daily routines; they are the fabric of our lives.  What meals we make, the clothes we wear, the order we get ready for bed, the breakfasts we make on Saturdays to pizzas every Friday.  And everything in between.   So good, yes?

But birthdays are special. Birthdays are routine with pizzazz.  Everything from making a wish as you blow out candles to presents to a gorgeous homemade birthday crown is part of their sweet birthday traditions.  We adorn a big numeral on our front door and we also celebrate half-birthdays (with a half of a candle, half of a treat, and zero presents) for a little mid-year party.  So, I was overjoyed when Ryann said we’d be celebrating Lark’s sixth birthday on our morning together.

I so love Lark’s birthday crown. I imagine her wearing this for decades to come, which is why I love photographs like this. The crown is the constant, but to see how she grows and changes under it will be remarkable.  As for today, make those wishes, Lark!

I’m eager to follow her work.

Color and joy explosion. I could soak here all day.

While the fog rolled in, color becomes even more saturated. Madison’s autumn is always a good show.
