Capitol, Coffee, & Cookies

It was a bluebird sky day when we met in front of the Capitol building. Sweet Erica just turned one year old and Mariko’s family wanted to celebrate by checking out the massive Christmas tree in the Capitol in the rotunda. We were the first visitors of the day and requested the tree’s lights be turned on. Saturated with dairy-themed ornaments from children around the state, we eyed the elementary school craftsmanship and watched the iconic train make its way around the circle track beneath the evergreen swoops.  This lovely family explored the wide-open space all by themselves, which is usually packed with special visitors from all over the state.

Emma dances in the sunlight drenched atrium next to a statue. Erica joins her and they examine the statue’s feet and hands with delight. Both girls are happy and curious about the world around them. They’re pure joy to be around!

The Capitol building, decorated in evergreen swags and dotted with red-ribboned wreaths, is bathed in sunlight as this beautiful family of four descend the steps toward a coffee and cookie calling.  The brisk temperatures do not bother them at all–happy to be outside on sunny winter’s day!

Family of four walk down the stairs at the Wisconsin State Capitol building. Mariko holds Erica while they walk in along the Square on a blustery December day.  Long morning shadows fill the sidewalk as they make their way to the cozy coffee shop for sweets and a warm drink.  Emma’s hair is blown in the brisk wind. Sunflare and shadows are among some of my most favorite things to photograph in a family session.
Mother holds 1yo daughter and walks next to 4yo daughter against bright sunlight. Shadows fall in front of them. Emma smiles at a rice cracker that her grandmother sent from Japan.

Mariko shared her thoughts on working with me on my Facebook page

She is professional, cheerful, and is a thoughtful person. We were so happy since she captured pretty moments with my little ones
