Early Autumn Evening | madison lifestyle family photographer

Madison Family Documentary and Lifestyle Photgrapher_0042Ever so narrowly, the screen door opens so Max could slip through & greet me with a shy smile and without narrative on the other side of a sun-kissed evening.  He clutches his soccer ball and shows me his recent additions to his stick collection on the porch steps.  Having a three-year-old myself, I am acutely appreciative of the trophies at my feet.  Within moments, his parents and sister skate through the door and our chatter tumbles through waning garden’s low iron gate.

Maya Angelou said, “I sustain myself with the love of family.”

In my short, yet thoroughly lovely time I spent with this quad, nothing was more evident than the love and engagement they had for each other.  My heart sings for family documentary work, and I’m over the moon for this authentic-living crew.  With falling early autumn temps, they plucked the season’s final harvest of sweet crimson cherry tomatoes under a spilling spotlight of the sun’s setting rays.  The task at hand was secondary to sharing observations with Max and Caroline, both of whom were eager to learn what tidbits their parents were tossing into their spongy brains.

We strolled to the adjacent park, so close it’s like a second living room, to run, kick, crawl, explore the space that they know so well. We make a broad circle sweep from open fields to secret garden to new forest path to playground to home, and all the while I observe their undeniable closeness.  Max shows me his important discoveries, namely rocks & sticks,  in the way that almost all preschoolers need to.  It’s a mark of a three-year-old in the same way a newborn springs from a swaddle. Caroline crawls in the carpet of grass, pausing to pick up & study fallen red berries. The whole family crouches to listen and explore with the same easiness as laughing; I never sensed an iota of forged connection among them.  They lived a typical early autumn Monday night in their own park, and I hung back to document the Realness.  Their Realness.  So best.

From Emily:

We loved our session with Jen and loved, loved, loved the photos she produced. We spent a lovely couple of hours with Jen in our yard and at the park in our neighborhood. We let the kids do their thing and Jen did hers. We were so happy with the results! Jen put together an amazing book for us that really captures our family’s joy at spending time together in one of our favorite places. So often folks having photography sessions and end up with a couple of nice pictures. Jen will put a great album together of all her prints. I highly recommend you get the album. It is such an amazing way to enjoy all these pictures all the time.
