A family of girls were raised on the Near West side of Madison.Their mother turned 90 this summer and returned to Madison to celebrate. Sisters, spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren spent days laughing, reminiscing, celebrating.
In the 1950s the sisters would spend hours hiking out Picnic Point in the summertime, picnic in tow, swimming in Lake Mendota. Today path is dotted with Lazy Susan, Queen Anne Lace, wild berries. Cicadas serenade the happy family chatter. Waves quietly lap against the rocks while aunts simultaneously talk of yesterday and today.
A birthday dinner and fabulous cake at Quivey’s Grove are part of this amazing birthday weekend.
Allison made arrangements with the current owners of the house in which Mamoo raised her daughters. It was such a gift to be present during the tour, to hear the stories, feel the joy that they all shared in this experience. It was delightful to see how many things in the home remained after the new owners moved in and raised their children.
Allison hosted a lovely birthday brunch on Mamoo’s big day. It was such a joy to be able to capture this time they had together in celebration of their matriarch’s 90th birthday. The girls made her a crown, Allison used rocks from Door County–a special place for them all–on the table.
Allison shared her thoughts with working with me:
Working with Jen is a treat. Her creativity for capturing out of the ordinary (but so very ordinary at the same time) moments is unexpected and a welcome change from the more traditional photo shoot (posed) experiences I’ve had. My husband and I were amazed at the beauty and quality of the photographs she captured of our family. Worth every penny.
Thank you, Allison and family! It was a joy to capture something so special for you all!

Jen
