The late summer light dripped off the trees and filtered into the warm backyard. Barefooted, Conrad gleefully padded the sweet, downy grass….his very first summer between his toes. Jocelyn & Ian filled the air with bright chatter. Blu moved between the yard and patio with the freedom that comes with being a good ol’ pup. You couldn’t have ordered a more beautiful evening, and it was ours for the taking. Jocelyn’s radiant smile & ubiquitously positive self absolutely glowed, while Ian generated an ambience of calm around him. And then there is Conrad–shiny happiness just poured out of him. His patient and thoroughly engaged parents let his curiosity guide the evening: from yard to patio to gardening…and then off to the beach.
After everyone changed into swimming suits, Ian grabbed Conrad & the swim bag while Jocelyn hoisted the Amundson SUP board. We headed across a wide, open lawn toward the cool lake. The family was in their element here….on the water, in the light. Splashing, laughing, connected to the fullest with each other. The sun started to dip and soften, and in that moment on the lake August reminded us why we love it so. Warm and dry, we headed to Monona Bait & Ice Cream shop to cap the evening with a special Babcock peanut butter & chocolate treat. Mmmmmm……ice cream!
There was freckle of light left in the evening as they made their way home across a football field sized grassland. A full triangle of an evening: home, lake & beach, Babcock ice cream, home again. Their home and neighborhood is sublimely envious, but from a kiddo point-of-view, Conrad is the luckiest boy I know to have all this within 200 yards of his front door.
AND to have parents cool enough to take him SUP’ing before he can walk! Hear that, Conrad?! Your parents are super cool, beautifully athletic, and they have amazingly bright enthusiasm to share with the world.
::swoon:: The best.
xo, Jen
Here are Jocelyn’s thoughts about working with me:
My husband and I were drawn to Jen by her eye and aesthetic, which is all about documenting your ordinary lifestyle. She was a treat to work with from the get go! She helped coach us on clothing and day/timing selection. She was extremely communicative leading up to the day of the shoot, during the actual shoot and afterwards. Always a professional, but man, is she fun too! We were immediately able to be ourselves to allow for really great shots. She was open to some of our ideas, but you’ll be amazed by what she discovers from behind the lense. You won’t regret working with her! As a matter of fact, I am having head-shots done by her in a week. Additionally, we’ll most definitely be having her shoot our family again in the future.
P.S. Go Bears 😉
Check out the Monona Bait and Ice Cream shop for some amazing PB Chocolate ice cream.
