I stepped into Katie and Stephen’s dark, cozy hospital room on the early spring morning  Jonathan was 36 hours young. The room was already filled to the brim with cheery people who love him so–his parents, of course, and also grandparents and an aunt who traveled a significant distance at the drop of the hat to meet him, hold him, love him and support Katie and Stephen.

There is something so tender about meeting your grandchild when he’s just hours old. Grandma holding newborn at hospital Grandpa holding newborn grandsonAunt flew in from New York City to snuggle with her nephew for the very first time.

Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.  — Jodi Picoult

Here are some thoughts from Katie about working with me:

LOVE working with Jen! Easy to work with and amazing pictures. She has a very comforting presence which was perfect for letting us relax and do our thing during the session (especially when our newborn was part of the shoots and I was breastfeeding)! Jen was very accommodating about when/where and was so patient with our pups who just wanted to snuggle her the whole time. We have loved working with Jen so much that we have booked her several times! Jen has truly captured our family. Thank you!
