This started out as a spontaneous Facebook post this morning.
Here in Madison, today is the last full day of school. Another year under our collective belt. In the whirlwind of unloading my hoarder children’s backpacks and teacher and coach gifts and every special end-of-year event, I had a moment with a fellow verklempt parent on the playground this morning about How Fast It All Goes.
I walked the slow route home–savored the intoxicating remaining lilacs and the new blooms in every garden along the way–and took note of not carrying at least three snacks on my person. But tomorrow I will. The summer will surely be crammed with wet pool towels, 2000 calorie carby snacks, broken goggles, a soccer ball through the last remaining glass garage window (Plexiglass FTW), sand in the kitchen, sunscreen in bleary eyes….and burgers on the grill, sleepy bed-heads at 8am, fresh berries, longer stretchy limbs, ice cream drips on the front stoop, cannon balls off the canoe.
While my passion is truly documenting, respecting, *valuing* your Beautifully Ordinary life and mine, I’m guilty of letting the busyness of life preventing me to see it all in front of me. *Raises hand* I am (re) pledging to be present and taking note of all the ordinary days this summer.
Before this kiddo below is putting real babies in his car. ::sob::
I leave you with this video–I urge you to grab some tissues (seriously) and take the 7 minutes >>>>>
